20 & 21 November 2023
As we witness the proliferation of disinformation in today's media landscape, the need for a concerted effort to combat this growing menace has become more urgent than ever. The European Congress on Disinformation and Fact-Checking serves as a crucial platform to address this pressing issue. We welcome you all to the 1st European Congress on Disinformation and Fact-Checking, focused on the theme of "Disinformation Across the EU-Ukraine Media Landscape." This event, organized in collaboration between Madrid University Carlos III and StopFake Ukraine, aims to foster cross-border dialogue, promote knowledge sharing, and develop innovative strategies to combat disinformation and strengthen fact-checking practices.
By bringing together leading experts, scholars, journalists, policymakers, and practitioners in the field, we seek to create a platform for robust discussions, critical analysis, and the exchange of ideas. Through interactive sessions, engaging workshops, and thought-provoking panel discussions, we aim to explore the multifaceted dimensions of disinformation, its impact on the media landscape, and the challenges it poses to our democratic societies.
About The Congress
What is the Disinformation Congress about?
During the Congress we will try to answer the question: How to analyze, professionally verify and communicate disinformation to different audiences? Thematic panels will bring together leading European and Ukrainian researchers, fact-checkers, journalists and experts in the field. Additionally, we will address the challenges faced by journalists and fact-checkers in a rapidly evolving media landscape and highlight the importance of media literacy in empowering citizens to discern truth from falsehood. We will go into the
intricacies of disinformation campaigns, examining their methods, motives, and effects on public opinion. We will explore the role of social media platforms, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies in amplifying and countering disinformation.
By the end of this congress, we envision a strengthened network of professionals dedicated to combating disinformation, equipped with new knowledge, tools, and strategies to foster accurate and reliable information dissemination. Together, we can build a more resilient media ecosystem that upholds the principles of transparency, accountability, and democratic values.
We look forward to your active participation and the collective impact we can make in this critical endeavor.
